Now this is my first time debating respecs, so feel free to challenge, pick apart, or support my points, im always good for a civillised debate!
I would like to draw attention to this video.
http://youtu.be/3fjch0kBjQIThis is the only part of the current NPE that doesn't consist of WINFO boxes.
Particularly I would like to point out a specific phrase!
The skills you train, will ultimately define the soilder you becomeThis to me says you are expected to specialise into a prefered role of your choice, this role will determine many things in what will eventually become the sandbox of dust! Now when I started I was fresh out of ME3 having played a vanguard, so I instantly wasted my points on a light suit and shotgun. Needless to say its not my kind of playstyle here.
At the time, I just biomassed and started again, It didn't matter, however even though I have found my role I have still made a few mistakes with my sp and truth be told some of that sp will never be utilised again. It's pointless.
However I am against the idea of full respecs, you should not be able to go from a proto caldari assault with a proto sniper instantly to proto amarr heavy and proto hmg. This is not right, or fair, or fun on anyone. However there is something that can be done that isn't as unfair as respecs, or unfair as being tied with your choice forever.
Allow a refund on a skill, one at a time, but with a little twist.
Refunds only return 40% of the sp spent.
The sp is gradually refunded over time
You cannot get a refund on any skill over and above
level 3 for racial dropsuit command
level 2 for suit specilization
level 1 for a weapon type
and similar restrictions on vehicles.
Now what this means is lets say I spec into heavies, unsure if im going to like them, I reach level 3 of amarr heavy dropsuit command, when I go to train it to level 4 a little WINFO box appears and tells me if I continue with this action I will "lock in" in this skill whereupon it becomes unrefundable, so instead I put a little into commando specalization, don't like it, get it refunded, don't get the points back instead they supplement my passive. I then spec into sentinel, decide that really I don't like heavies, refund the points, don't get them back, instantly, the supplement my passive.
I then try another suit, I like it, lock it in and play for months with this suit. Now I decide I want a FOTM go for a refund, but wait I can't, I locked it in. No FOTM chasers, and those that do spec into FOTM of the month get penalised! Fair on noobs, fair on experimenters, not fair on FOTM chasers!
